The Meaning

The only real restoration to be found must begin with the restoration of our relationship with God through Jesus Christ.  That may sound narrow minded to some, but it is true nonetheless.  God desires intimate relationship with us, and created us to have that relationship.  Along the line, we chose poorly and decided that while God is all powerful and sovereign, we really ought to have our own way.  That choice resulted in a separation between God and humanity, a separation that God never intended, and that breaks His heart.  The restoration of our relationship with God, as with any relationship, would require sacrifice on someone's part.  God loved us enough to take that initiative, and to give that sacrifice.  That sacrifice was Jesus Christ.  When Jesus died, the Bible says that the veil in the temple was torn in two.  This was a visual picture of what happened in that moment - the barrier between people and God was removed.  But that's not all - when Jesus died on the cross, he didn't stay dead.  He came to life again, proving His authority over everything, including death.  Then, Jesus passed that authority on to us.  That's where the restoration story continues.  Because of Jesus' victory, we can have victory, too - over addictions, illness, our past, our future.  Maybe you've never had a day of victory in your life.  But you can start now.  If you want to start your life over, and be in relationship with God, here is a simple prayer you can pray:

God, I acknowledge that I have been living without you, but I know that I need you now.  I know that my distance from you has not pleased you, but I know that you love me and will forgive me.  I believe that you came to us in the person of Jesus Christ, and Jesus died on a cross to wipe away all my mistakes and to make a way for me to come to you.  I believe that Jesus rose from the dead, and is alive right now.
Now, I am choosing to turn from the life I have been living, and follow you instead.  Please give me your Holy Spirit to help me become the person you want me to be.  Thank you, God.

Now, it would be really good if you would...
